Mommy Barn Swallow is feeding her babies in the return alley of the milking parlor. Before long they will be gone!

The photo is of another family of them teaching a baby to fly. So neat!!! The baby is on the wire and Mom is circling. Whenever I tried to do a video she would fly away so resorted to a photo… Perhaps these little ones will return next year and have their babies here also.

  1. BARN SWALLOWS – HOW WELL I RECALL THE FIRST FEW TIMES I ENCOUNTERED THE FLYING BARN BIRDS; SCOOPING DOWNWARD AT WHAT SEEMED AS AN ATTACK AT THE TOP OF MY HEAD. I SOON REALIZED THAT THEY WERE PROBABLY PROTECTING THEIR YOUNG. AS I HAVE SEEN MORE THAN ONCE THEIR DIVING AT WHAT SEEMS THE TOP OF MY HEAD; I AM SO HAPPY THAT PIGS DO NOT FLY. WHAT I RECALL SEEING MORE OF IN THE BARNS ARE CATS. I ASSUME THAT THEY COME FOR THE MICE. SOMETIMES IF A FARMER IS IN A HAPPY MOOD, A CAT WILL GET A HELPING OF FRESH COWS MILK SQUIRTED IT’S WAY.

  2. I love barn swallows! I have a couple, Harry and Sally, who have a nest in my milk room where I milk my goats. They come back every year. This year they hatched 5 babies but 1 fell out and a cat got the poor baby. But the other 4 did well and all flew off. They came back for a few weeks. But now are all on their own. Harry and Sally are thinking about laying more eggs again already! Enjoy your little barn swallows. They are so fun to have around.
