Thursday evening…Been working on three fields of second cutting hay, trying to get them to dry, just about all week! Then today it became last call since forecast for tomorrow is R-A-I-N…
So the two old fogies, Carol in her little Blue raking and me in my big Green right behind baling… Even today the sun was not in full bloom but rather trying to peek thru those high thin clouds!
Up first was the grass hay with some red clover in one section along with some weeds in the new part of this reclamation project of a gravel pit. Most bales in this field were nice!
Next we went to the biggest field of the three and still a good alfalfa stand with some grass! The sun did shine some while we were doing this field, so because we only have five wagons, I made these bales on the heavy side, knowing wagon room for all the hay was going to be tight…
Also no time or help to unload! Then near the end of that field I had to start backing off on how heavy I could make the bales!
It was getting late in the day by the time we made it to field three, a clover, grass, weeds combo…not my proudest moment in seeding down a field…I knew this was really in need of one more day of sunshine! Luckily the weeds seemed to be in strips so I was able to bale that part kinda separate!
The clover and grass also came on one side of the field so I could adjust for each section, making okay bales. Only drawback was the wagons didn’t hold everything, so had to bale those last few windrows on the ground!
Thank goodness Maggie came while we were in that last field, so with her truck we picked up what was baled on the ground! Then she helped with chores and even got Jess to help her unload some while we were milking!
)Per usual, Murphy’s Law came into play…our last Milking Shorthorn cow, Nicohl, had her calf…another bull…she has never had a heifer…bull number 4!!! Plus some heifers got out but also came right back to a pail of grain, just a pain when it has been a long, tough day to start with!
And since I’m on such a roll with how today has worn me out…I don’t know for sure if the Lymes is the reason, but some days my body just hurts…you guessed it, today it hurts…neck, back, shoulders, knees, hips…and since today has been so back-ass-ward, as my Father used to say, I’d probably bitch if I was being hung with a new rope!
All those screw ups couldn’t just let a good day be a good day!!! Yup, two old fogies baling up almost 800 bales of hay!!!
*** photo is taken from inside little Blue as I was raking the third field…both winter feed items in the same photo, both looking good!!! (Carol) And by the way, I do not think of myself as an old fogie until days like yesterday.
